My "Date Night At Home" Pinot Noir
After leaving my job as a pharmaceutical representative to go back to school to become a dietitian, my husband and I cut back on going out to eat quite a bit. Then when our daughter came along, well, lets just say that we started having a lot of date nights at home. We usually eat dinner together as a family, but sometimes on a Friday night, Jeff and I will fix something else for Lola and wait until she goes to bed to have a take out dinner together… our date night at home... you know a meal that doesn't involve cleaning up spilt milk three different times (including the time I knock it over again while trying to clean it up) and a toddler sing along.
One of the benefits to date night at home is that we can get a pretty nice wine for much less then it would cost to buy it dining out. One of my favorite date night wines of 2014 is the Saintsbury Pinot Noir. The first time I had it was when I met some girlfriends for a drink at 1618 Wine Lounge on half price wine on tap night… you know that is one of the great things about 1618 Wine Lounge, I wouldn't have expected such a yummy wine to be on tap, but they do it. Since then we have purchased it from Total Wine on Battleground for $27.99.
The Saintsbury is a more flavorful Pinot in my opinion, medium-bodied. If you happen to be a fan of Meomi, I would think that you would love Saintsbury. It is described as "aromas of spicy red and black fruit seasoned by aging Burgundy-made barrels. It has a plump middle, fine-grained tannin and enough acidity to pair with food."
All I know is that I like it. I like it a lot.
