If You Don't Diet, Are You Letting Yourself Go?

If you don’t diet, do you worry that you are letting yourself go?

Diet culture sells the message that if you aren’t dieting, then you aren’t caring at all (there’s some black and white/all or nothing thinking for ya).

Actually, there is a lot of space between choosing not to diet and not caring at all.

I’d even argue that not dieting allows space for you to care MORE about things other than weight loss.

Things like:

  • Your health

  • Your mental well-being

  • Connection with friends and family over meals and celebrations

  • Your worthiness

  • Advancing in your career and other interests

Just to name a few…

Dieting promises so many great things, but if you think about it, it actually takes a lot away. It chips away at your mental well-being, your worthiness, sometimes your connection with friends and family, your creativity… and often your health, although that is not always as obvious since weight loss is sold as health.

If you have a long history of dieting, the idea of not having that sense of control makes you feel like the alternative is you just spiraling out of control. And that may be because that is all you have experienced, you are either dieting or spiraling out of control.

But you ate without this chaos at one point in your life. You were born to eat without a lot of food rules. You just lost your way in the milieu of diet culture.

What if by not dieting again, you weren’t letting yourself go, but you were letting yourself be.

Be more peaceful

Be more joyful

Be more steady

We help people step away from the back and forth, the all or nothing, the doing good then doing bad, the on track and then off track rollercoaster that dieting creates and help people nestle into a way of eating that is more steady, more peaceful, more enjoyable. AND it is better for their health.

You are likely like most of our clients, you feel like you are doing pretty well in most areas of your life except this one, food and weight. It is here where you feel ashamed and like a failure. But here is the thing, I promise you, you do not lack self control or willpower. It is actually the over control of dieting that leads to the out of control eating.

It’s not you, it’s the way you have been trying.

If you are interested in trying a different way, you can click here to set up an appointment with one of our amazing non-diet, weight inclusive, dietitians.
